Welcome to our Parent Forum. This is an opportunity for us to listen to you and open up the two-way dialogue around various aspects of our College. We meet once every term for one hour with the focus of each forum decided by you.
Date of Next Meeting: Monday 10th June 2013. Meetings will take place in the Octagon and will begin at 6:00pm prompt.
Topic for the Evening: Literacy
The link between reading, academic success and enhanced life chances is undeniable. At Tavistock College, we are focussing on the promotion of reading and enhancing all staff’s skills to support all learners in their reading because we believe this is a priority.
We have invested in an IT based motivational reading tool (Accelerated Reader ®) and developed our own ‘Community Reading Mentor Scheme’ this year; We have devoted more curriculum time than ever before to reading (in tutor time and lessons, as with ‘Drop and Read’ in Year 7) and we are focussing on teaching and enhancing all staff’s understanding of the process and skills involved in reading.
In this Parents’ Forum we will share more details with parents about these programmes and discuss how parents and the wider community can support students with reading.
Once again a big thank you to everyone who attended last terms parent forum on January 21st. The focus of which, as voted for by you, was ‘ethos and values’. At the meeting we discussed all aspects of College life and decided to action two priorities to work on, these were:
Feedback on progress of these key priorities will be shared at the next forum taking place on Monday 10th June 2013. We would be delighted to see you there and welcome your constructive input in the development of our College.
We have invested considerable time and effort into improving our lines of communication with parents, carers and the local community as a whole. You can now keep up to date with day to day College news and essential information via these sources:
