February half term saw 42 students and 6 members of staff heading off
to Arinsal in Andorra for a week of skiing and snowboarding.
The tour was once again organised by Halsbury Travel, and like last year they proved to be impeccable. They have been so good that we will be using them again next year when we head back to Bardonecchia in Italy. The journey was smooth and our coach drivers, John and Merwin, were great company and entertained us… especially John trying to negotiate Andorrans roundabouts!
Divided into ability groups for skiing and snowboarding, each group developed its own personality and had a fantastic week with their instructor. They all made huge progress and it was great and an absolute pleasure to see them ski and snowboard with confidence and enjoyment. Well done everyone.
In the evening a disco, bowling, a shopping trip to Andorra la Vella and pizza night kept everyone entertained. The pizza night finished with a massive snowball fight, it was huge fun.
The snow conditions were good and the weather was beautiful all week, so on 25th February all 48 tanned but weary students and staff returned to Tavistock with new friendship groups, great memories, far too many photos and videos and a determination to do it all again in 2014!

On Thursday 12th July Mr Wilson, Mrs Gibson and I took 40 happy Year 7
students to Warwick Castle for the day. We met at ‘stupid o’clock’ as
one student nicely put it – which was 6am….. We had 4 and a half hours
on the coach and arrived at the Castle at 10.30am. It was a bright sunny
day (apparently raining in Tavistock….sorry!) We had a wonderful day and
the students were brilliant!
We completed 3 activities – a ‘defending and attacking a castle’ tour, a ‘flight of the eagles’ display and a ‘firing of the trebuchet’ show (apparently the largest trebuchet in Europe). The students had the opportunity of exploring the Castle themselves – both inside and out and some bought bows and arrows and did a mock attack themselves.
We left at 4pm and the staff were ready for a sleep on the coach on the way home but the students had other ideas!! We were home by 8.30pm after a very memorable and enjoyable day out.
Well done all those lovely Year 7 students who came with us!
