Personal Development Day

The College’s Personal Development Day on November 25 will be taking more of a departmental focus. Students will be off their normal timetable for the day and have the chance to work in cross curricular areas looking at a range of subjects.

An Environmental Day has been planned for Year 7 where they will spend the day working with staff from Geography, Maths, Performance Studies and Citizenship, looking at issues such as recycling, the College’s carbon footprint, sustainable travel and how they, as a group, can make an impact.

Year 8 will continue their Changing Valley Project and take part in National Tree Week, planting the indigenous trees of the Tamar Valley in their Odyssey Orchard. They will also combine art and English poetry into this work and look at the natural environment through these creative subjects.

The Cultural Day planned for Year 9 aims to expose them to the 'real world' of the languages taught within the College. Working with the DT and Language Departments, students will get a chance to look at the food, architecture, fashion and culture of some countries and experience the tastes, sights and sounds of these places whilst in the comfort of their College!

In response to employers’ and university needs, Year 10 will spend half a day on a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) workshop with professionals - looking at how these subjects are used in the world of work. The other part of the day will give students an intensive chance to complete a practical assessment with specialised help from Science staff.

Year 11 will find themselves in many different places on this day! There will be a chance to attend coursework catch up sessions, hot lessons, revision lessons, fast fit classes, ‘de-stress not distress’ sessions and study skills seminars - all aimed at making those looming GCSE exams just that little bit easier.

Sixth Form students will spend time with their Year Team refining their time management and revision skills.

We hope the day will give all students a chance to spend intensive time constructively gaining new skills, honing old ones and expanding their horizons in fun and exciting ways.
